Here’s an idea for you. From my life to yours. Maybe this is something you’ve already done. Maybe you can’t remember the last time you picked up a paintbrush. Either way, go have a painting party. You’ll learn a lot about yourself, maybe a little bit about others and literally have something to take away from it.
The only reason this happened at all is because my roommate has taken up painting. She has this plan of doing something every day for 30 days, and she chose this art form. She seems to be a natural at this which, on occasion, has made me have artist envy. But we’re all good at certain things, and we should all tap into those skills when and where we can. She’s always been good at things that involve patience.
What I liked about painting, I also like about life. I like the way it slows you down, reminds you to take your time to create (or be) something unique. I like the way two similar people can have completely different results. I like the way a person can think concretely or abstractly and translate both onto canvas. Overall I appreciate the chance to remove myself away from the world of writing and focus on another craft.
Above is my painting. Feel free to interpret. I can tell you that I had no expectations of including a heart. I was more focused on the colors. The boyfriend told me this shade of purple is very “me.” When he sees that color, he automatically thinks of me. Maybe I wear it often. Or it makes my personality. I’m not sure.
In conclusion, if you’re looking for something cheap, easy – and most of importantly – relaxing to do, get our paintbrushes and take them for a spin. I promise you that it’ll be worth it. We all don’t get enough creativity in our days.
